Fandom Friday

GUYS, DOCTOR WHO COMES BACK TOMORROW *DANCES* Honestly, I thought initially we were going to have to wait until October (because I swear I heard that somewhere...?), so getting it back again this week is awesome (especially since I will likely be homebound Sunday, since MA has already declared a state of emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Irene).

Also, the episode is called "Let's Kill Hitler." How can you not love that?

The earlier than (I) anticipated return of DW almost makes up for the ridiculous Sherlock delay.

Speaking of Sherlock:

Waking You Up, by brbsoulnomming at AO3. This was a kick in the gut, along the lines of "Alone on the Water," but there are some twists in there that make this very worth reading. If I say any more I will spoil it. Please read. It's so well done.

and stand there at the edge of my affection, by coloredink once again at AO3 (BTW, for the handful of fen who haven't visited AO3, go, go, go). This is cute and fluffy and manages to be in-character and I'm really not one for fluff, but for some reason, um, this fandom writes it so I like it? Sherlock asks John for help in writing a love letter. Very cute.

Oh, and in tangentially Sherlock-related news: HOUSE. Anyone who knows me knows I was severely disappointed in the last season, for various reasons (which I won't get into). BUT -- it looks like House is actually going to go to prison for his actions in the last episode (which, by the way, was one of three I saw last season). I've been hearing rumors, though no one will confirm or deny anything, that this may be the last season as well, so I feel compelled -- as someone who used to be deeply involved with the fandom (albeit as a passive participant) -- to watch, at least for a little while.

Seeing the trailer for Season Eight made me ridiculously nostalgic for the show as it once was, and for the old House/Wilson dynamic, so here is a classic piece of H/W fanfic, one of the first I read in the fandom and still one of my favorites: Blow the Candles Out by [livejournal.com profile] bethfrish. (This one is rated R, but I think it's tastefully done, and it's really only one scene). Six years later, and I still read it and feel blown away.

I was also really disappointed in the last season of House! The finale was totally ridiculous. I don't know if I'll bother with the last season, although if it is the last one, then I may give it a shot.

Thanks for the recommendations! There can never be too much Sherlock.

The finale was bananas. What's really sad is I felt House's character had actually made some progress prior to this past season, and then that just all went out the door.

I am also adamantly NOT a fan of House/Cuddy, at least not when/how they did it (I would have been perfectly happy with them pursuing House/Cuddy three seasons ago, because then it would have at least felt organic... but I felt like they had to twist the characters around for the storyline (given where the characters were at that point in the timeline), and that really bothered me. And I loved Lisa Edelstein, which makes me even sadder).

Since they don't know if this will be the last season ot not, I'll probably try to watch :-/

You're welcome! As I said, I consume lots of fan media (particularly arts and vids) for a lot of fandoms, but Sherlock is the only one I'm reading in right now ;)

Yeah, I definitely didn't buy Huddy. It just seemed like a bad idea all round! I read that Lisa Edelstein isn't even coming back for the next season (http://www.tvline.com/2011/05/house-shocker-lisa-edelstein-quits/). I found her pretty annoying, actually - but mostly in the later seasons. I liked her more earlier on.
